Class Description

This class focuses on the study of the human figure, with particular emphasis on the importance of draftsmanship. Students will learn how to better compose pictures that focus on the figure, while at the same time being attentive to the relationship of color and tonal values throughout the picture. Light is studied for its effect on the large planes of the body, for the ways in which it models and clarifies anatomical form, and for its contribution to the richness of color that gives life to the figure. Students may work in any media. We will discuss the challenges of longer posed works through individual critiques and in-class demonstrations. This class works from both clothed and nude models. Poses will vary in length.
