This class is about creating a complete image from first idea to finished product in colored pencil. Colored pencil is a new medium, and a potentially complex one. Building on the Colored Pencil Technique class, the student will explore bringing one or more works to completion. Each session will be a building block to the next focusing on individual attention. The student will choose a project, create a beginning drawing then build the surface in colored pencil. The goal of completing each project will include discussions of composition and color as well as colored pencil drawing techniques. Taking the technique class is not a prerequisite to this class although returning students are always encouraged and welcome. This class is open to all levels, from beginner to advanced draughtsman.
About the Instructor
Lisa Dinhofer—painter, draftswoman, and printmaker—earned her BA with honors from Brandeis University and an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania. Her work has been shown extensively, both nationally and internationally. Her most recent solo shows were at the Century Association (NYC, 2015) and Denise Bibro Fine Art (NYC, 2012). Her paintings, drawings, and prints are widely collected and publicly represented at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, City College (CUNY), IBM, and other venues. In 2003, she completed a 90-foot glass mosaic mural, Losing My Marbles, which was commissioned by the MTA Arts for Transit program and is located at the Times Square subway station.
