Class Description

 

In depth study of major figures in art history from Botticelli to Pollock. Each week devoted to the art of another artist.

1. Sandro Botticelli

2. Giovanni Bellini

3. Michelangelo

4. Sofonisba Anguissola

5. Rembrandt van Rijn

6. Eduard Manet

7. Henri Matisse

8. Jackson Pollock

The class will consist of a slide lecture followed by discussion of the art works. Readings will be suggested, and some follow up presentations assigned to students on topics of interest.

About the Instructor

Ms. Lipsky is a colorfield painter and a writer based in New York.  Her pictures are represented in twenty-five public collections, including the Whitney Museum, the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts (Houston), the Walker Art Center, the Brooklyn Museum, and Harvard’s Fogg Art Museum. She has had thirty solo exhibitions. Her writing has appeared in Tablet Magazine, The New Criterion, Public Books and others.
